Music Monday

I have always been a Sara Bareilles fan, but I have never really searched through all of her music besides what is on the radio.

But recently, as in this past week, I have been quite obsessed with her and all of her music. Today at work I was listening to her Pandora station and it was fabulous…not only filled with her music but also others that fall in the same genre and I just loved it.

here are some of my recent faves…

I hope everyone has a lovely week!

Hot Topics

So after my incredibly lame “best meal” post from last week’s hot topics, this is definitely a step up!

Best Meal – Sweet Bones Restaurant in Birmingham, this was the 1/2 yard bird with slaw and white beans. delicious is an understatement.

Music Monday (on Tuesday?)

So yesterday seemed to disappear right from under me, I can say that I was quite productive…working, grocery shopping, and completing some school assignment/reading. I meant to post at various times throughout the day but like I said…it got away from me so I am bringing you Music Monday on well, Tuesday.

One of my best friends is a complete pop culture guru and for that I absolutely love her, she recently sent me a list of new music (or at least new to me) that I should check out and I figured I would share some of that with y’all.

Adele – Rolling in the Deep

What do you think?

Hot Topics

I was just reading my roommate’s most recent blog post (click here) and she mentioned about how she (we) watch The View daily and they always begin the show with hot topics of the day. (You should read her post, I am sort of stealing her idea)

She a gave a little weekly roundup of events that were fun, things that were funny, and most importantly food that was tasty. I thought this was a marvelous idea and though it would look near as good or well put together as hers I thought I would give you my hot topics for the week.

Best TV time – American Idol started back this week, I am a faithful watcher and supporter of the show, I will be the first to admit that the past couple of seasons have been quite anticlimactic. But this year, I feel like with all the changes they have made…it makes it a little more exciting to watch. These are my favorites thus far..

Jordan Dorsey from New Orleans

jordan dorsey

and…

Travis Orlando from New Jersey

Best Meal – Slim Fast Chocolate shake…I know, that shows how lame my meals have been this week. I do not follow the slim fast diet but I love the chocolate drinks…it feels like a healthy chocolate milk (I know, totally weird) but I like the drink them every now and then for breakfast!

Best Tweet – @JoyVBahar

“Betty’s been around a long time. I heard she once did a show called "Hot for Grover Cleveland."

Best Song – Marry Me by Train

Music Mondays

I think that this train song is so sweet.I heard it on the radio recently and have not been able to stop listening to it.

Really… how cute are they, read the story on the info of the youtube page and it says this…

Here's the backstory... last week I did a family session with Krysta's parents and Andy. We had a great time and during the session I was kind of teasing Andy about proposing and how we could "fake" some engagement photos of him and Krysta. She joked about photoshopping in a ring... three days later I received a phone call from Andy and he asked me if we could set up a photoshoot for just him and Krysta and that he wanted to actually propose and have engagement photos of the special moment. Brian and I knew that this had to become a fusion session - how could we not capture the audio of him proposing? we couldn't. I also knew we had to make the shoot believable to catch Krysta off guard. I came up with a plan to tell her I was shooting a promo piece for our website and needed some footage of me in action and wondered if her and Andy would be willing to come out again and be my models. She fell for it hook, line and sinker! The session started off kind of funny - I immediately noticed the ring box in Andy's pocket and wondered how Krysta hadn't noticed... but Andy kept his shirt untucked and when he walked it actually covered it. We began filming and photographing them in different positions and about 45 minutes in I told Andy to come stand in front of Krysta on the steps and then I said "ok, why don't you get down on one knee and act like you're proposing" and he said "I think I can do better than that" and started to pull the ring box out of his pocket... and the rest, as seen in their short film, was priceless.... we continued on for about 20 minutes to capture their very first "engagement" photos before we lost our sunlight. Thanks Andy for asking us to capture this very special moment - and congratulations you two! Happy wedding planning!!!

and…

FLORENCE!

I have become recently “obsessed” with Florence and the Machine. She stinkin rocks. Dog Days is an awesome song but I highly recommend trying out the rest of the album because it only gets better…

Let me know what you think…

Road trip!

Within the past year I have had two family members and their families move to Nashville, TN. Being at school in Alabama the city seems to be only a “hop, skip, and a jump” away…which actually means about 3 hours.

I have been to the city once and have been searching for a time to return since then. When I realized that my family had moved to the area it seemed like the perfect time. (being on the college budget, we can stay with them for free!)

nashville

So the rooms and I planned a “spontaneous” weekend get-a-way and we are going to head to the music city in about two weeks. We are pretty excited just to have a fun trip, just the two of us.

We have both visited the city before…but are looking for some new, fun things to check out while we are there. If you have any suggestions of things to do, people to see, or places to eat then please leave a comment and let us know.

The last time I was there I check out Gigi’s cupcakes in the city…but ever since I read about Carrie Underwood’s wedding cake being cupcakes from this lovely shop – I am dying to try it out! Ivey Cake in Franklin, TN. It seems like such a cute place and I hope the little things are as good as they look. Has anyone ever been there? or have any other recommendations?

I hope everyone has a good and long weekend!

Steamboat Springs

Well I took a bajillion pictures while in Colorado, thus I will not bore you by going through and explaining them all. Here I will list a couple that are noteworthy and then I have included an album that all are welcome to look through with all of the pictures from the trip!

We flew into Denver and by of Cupcakes Take the Cake I found this cute cupcake shop Happy Cakes! The cupcakes were quite tasty and the shop was soooo cute. I even bought a t-shirt that says “everyday is a good day for a cupcake”

I had planned to photograph the different foods and places that we ate. I will make a disclaimer, every meal we had I found incredibly delicious. One night I got buffalo burger sided with homemade onion rings…

100_2589

Well I was quite intrigued and by the time I remembered to take a picture this was all that remained…Ooops. Can you tell it was good?

100_2591

I had the same thought when we ordered desserts “Lizzie’s Beignets”….well and the same result ensued..Can you tell we thought they were also good?

I could have taken a thousand pictures of these trees

I previously posted here talking about the weather forecast in Colorado…I am quite certain that it was even colder than they claimed it to be. There were negative numbers everyday except the very last one and the high that day was like 12 – I thought it was practically tropical.

It was a great trip filled with a lot of fun and a lot of good food!!

Red Velvet/Turtle Cupcakes

These are two different cupcakes, but as I just posted that I made a red velvet cake for Christmas…just days after we were celebrating my sister-in-law and my step sisters’ birthdays. Well my sister-in-law “E” made one request and that was red velvet cupcakes (she was not with us for the cake on Christmas) but since the rest of the family wanted something different I decided to test out these turtle cupcakes – a recipe I found in a fun new cookbook I got for Christmas.

For the red velvet cupcakes I got the recipe from the Brown Eyed Baker and you can find the exact one here!

For the turtle recipe, just leave a comment with your email if you want the recipe…

Oh my goodness

check out this video…what goof balls!

P.s. (what if I told you that I am related to these weirdos…I told you we were dysFUNctional)

Tacky Christmas Treats

So I know, I bake a lot of cupcakes…but for the Christmas party this year I decided I wanted to try something different.

I decided to make cake pops – I had seen them done at a couple of different occasions and they were always so tasty so I figured why not?

Let me say this, I thought they were incredibly difficult and time consuming. I baked all day long. Once I finally got the cake and frosting rolled into balls – I then had the hardest time with dipping them in the melted chocolate.

In the end they turned out to be pretty tasty but I am not sure I desire to make them again..after about the third ball fell apart in the melting chocolate I tearfully said to my mom “why didn’t I just make cupcakes?”

I used box cake mix and store bought frosting for both the strawberry and chocolate fudge cake balls, I figured I was focusing my energy on making the actual cake balls not the recipe beforehand.

(oh I also made Buffalo chicken dip for the party… YUMMMMMMMMY)

100_2485

Okay, I am really losing it because I completely forgot that I also made these tasty peanut butter sandwich cookies. They are a chocolate cookie with a peanut butter concoction in the middle. They were quite tasty and a recipe that I found on the pioneer woman’s tasty kitchen blog!

100_2487100_2488

And here they are…the cake balls…

100_2489100_2491100_2492100_2493100_2494100_2495

And we cannot forget the buffalo dip… =)

Red Velvet Cake

So for Christmas dinner we had close to thirty people coming over (yes, most were related in some way) and about 4 different people claimed they were bringing a “pumpkin” dessert.

So I decided to try and find something that would be different than pumpkin but still easy to make amongst all of the scurrying of Christmas time.

I am actually not the biggest red velvet fan, but when I came across this recipe and saw that the frosting contained cream cheese and melted marshmallows..I thought, “I have got to taste that!”

It was from none other than Mrs. Paula Deen! If you would like the recipe just click here!

100_2549

These are the only pictures that I have of the cake…I found that the lumpy frosting (nuts and coconut) was extremely difficult to frost the way I wanted it to look.

100_2550

It was all pretty tasty, but I loved the frosting…LOVED it. Something about the melted marshmallows and the nuts. I actually despise coconut but it was a very mellow flavor that I could hardly even taste.

Y’all should try it out!
