Stuffing, Cobbler,Cupcakes…oh my.

While home Callie cooked dinner for me, corey, Erin, and dad. We had a very nice dinner with him, well my dad doesn’t like a ton of sweets but he LOVES cobbler. Any kind… serve it hot with some vanilla ice cream and he is a happy man. A while back I saw The Pioneer Woman had an “easy blackberry cobbler” recipe and I thought this would be a great time to test it out.

I think I may have had too many blackberries (I had no idea how expensive they are, so I used them all) but it was still quite scrumptious. It didn’t quite look as pretty as The Pioneer Woman but it still tasted delicious. Check out the album for before and after pictures.

This stuffing is by no means a work of art or talent, in fact it is incredibly easy but I thought it was delicious. My preference with stuffing is the simpler and the more traditional the better… this is the basic Pepperidge farm stuffing mix recipe. It includes the stuffing mix, melted butter, chicken broth, onions, celery, and cranberries. (I threw in the cranberries last minute because well…why not?)

I really enjoyed this recipe and will more than likely continue to use in for future holidays.

Now onto my favorite part… the cupcakes! Again channeling my inner pioneer woman… I found this recipe on the tasty kitchen website and thought that there was no better time than thanksgiving to make them. I found another recipe on the same website for a cinnamon cream cheese frosting…yummy is an understatement of that. I could have eaten the frosting on anything. The cupcakes turned out great, baking cinnamon apples was a lot easier than I thought and overall I thought they were very tasty.

They could almost be a breakfast dessert…they may have been even more delicious slightly warmed and served a la mode? who knows…try it out!

Thankful Part 2

I have been a little absent from the blogosphere this weekend as I ventured home for an early thanksgiving with my family. I have tons of fun pictures to post from this weekend filled with my nephew and cooking mostly, but I left my camera at home so I will probably not have those to post until this weekend.

Last week I published a post titled Thankful and spoke about  my best friends from home…there are 7 of us and I also highlighted my friendship with Landy, so today  is part 2 of these posts and will be highlighting the lovely Chelsea Baker!

Chelsea Baker…well there are so many reasons why I love her and truly this will be a long, long list.

  • she is a ginger
  • pop culture guru
  • we can talk for hours about music, movies, award shows, fashion – she knows everything
  • addicted to diet coke and peanut butter
  • we are both obsessed with Once and Glee
  • open minded
  • respectful
  • hilarious/sarcastic
  • she does awesome hairstyling
  • did I mention she was a ginger?

Now chels, I am the one that looks horrid in most of these…sorry for being such a bad picture companion!

Why Not Me?

Last night at The Well we were blessed to have  great speaker. Our college pastor Chris Brooks had previously told us about his friend who as a young boy was diagnosed with Lupus…fought the battle and was really doing great things with his life and his relationship with Jesus. But just this semester he found out the lupus had returned (which is rare) and just last week before he came to speak to us he finished his last portion of chemo for this round of treatment.

Having known a little background to this story…it just seemed that something was different last night at the well but something I couldn’t quite put my finger on. We sang some really powerful songs and all of which said phrases about God being our healer, our savior, there and present always, He is constantly here with us. When he got up to speak it was really great…he talked about facing God when something happens that you weren't prepared for or tragedy. To sum it up…he said “why not me?”, saying that everyone asks “how could this happen to you?” or “why you” and he basically said “why NOT me?”. Christ suffered for us and there are numerous stories of “biblical heroes” we might call them and he talked about how they suffered but how they were dependent on their God and they would not abandon him just as He would not abandon them. I really really recommend following the link  below and listening to the podcast. It’s about 30 minutes ish so if you have any down time really just give it a try. It is a message worth hearing for all.

Check out the Podcast here!

I apologize for the slightly corny pictures but it was the best version with lyrics.

I hope that everyone has a marvelous day, leave me your comments and let me know what you think or if you listened to the podcast! Also, don’t forget to follow me to keep up with all of the posts!!

This is all I ask of you

Dear ABC, this is all I ask of you for the Dancing With The Stars finale. How can you have Baby in the finale and not make this one of her dances. Please Derek Hough, do this for me.

Absolutely one of my favorite movies and movie scenes of all time.

RIP Patrick Swayze

The Bathroom

I think that often times bathrooms are looked over because they are not as visible to visitors or they are the last thing included in the budgets of redecorating.

I personally think that bathrooms are the complete “you” or “me” space and is often the place where you are completely alone. This post was inspired as I was freezing and wet coming home this evening and I thought…oh a hot bubble bath…

The large picture with the group is one of my favorites, what a dreamy shower and serene space. I love the light colors and dark accents. I could imagine just sitting in that shower with so many features for hours on end.

The hot pink bathroom – how fun! I would never ever have thought to design a bathroom with such bold pink-ness but I think it is precious. Especially for a young girl, it is still put together and classy but so very fun and unique.

The other two pictures of complete bathrooms I think are just pretty setups and are such pretty bathroom designs. As you can tell I love the tub or a spacious shower. The stand alone bath tub that looks more like a funky time machine or something of the sort is something that just merely caught my eye. How exactly does that work? It is like laying out but in the tub? Who knows, it is probably incredibly comforting.

What do you all think? What are your bathrooms like or what do you wish they would be?

Thankful

I remember in high school alums would come back or my siblings and their friends would say “enjoy the time, you wont talk/see most of these people ever again” – I don’t know about you but this scared me to death because I loved my friends.

Now I will say that the majority of people I saw on a daily basis have all moved on and are doing exciting things with their life and without Facebook, I would have no idea what they are up to. BUT – I was incredibly blessed in my middle and high school years to have a magnificent group of friends. And I am so proud to say that as we are halfway through our 3rd year removed from high school that we are still best friends. We all dispersed in many directions.. 3 to Auburn, 1 to Alabama, 1 to UWF, and 2 Florida. (Apparently we are  good luck, just check out our football teams since we have been there) and we may not talk every day or even every week but when we get back together or when we get the chance to have a phone call its as though nothing changed.

Last week was a beloved member of the 7 (the name in which we call ourselves) Landys 21st birthday and we were able to coordinate a time in which we could both talk undisturbed. It was an hour long conversation discussing all aspects of life. Before we got off Landy said… “Isn’t it funny how we can be separated for weeks or months and pick up the phone and its like nothing changed” and for that I am so incredibly thankful.

In honor of Landy’s birthday I dedicate this post to her and some flashbacks on our friendship – (don’t worry s7 your posts are coming)

What I love about Landy -

  • her obsession with diet coke
  • she drove the mexi for all of high school
  • one of the first times we hung out just the two of us we scored free pie from Jim ‘n’ nicks
  • I believed her name was Landrew for like 2 years
  • she likes anything I bake
  • she listens to any and all complaining sessions
  • she is the bomb diggity.

This list could go on for days…here are some reminiscent pictures (cue the nostalgia)

(she will probably thank me for most of these..my  favorite is the one on the far bottom right.)

So thankful that with my friends though we have all begun our own lives and may never all live in the same town together again – some things never change.

The Kitchen Sink

I have become quite infatuated with kitchens and have pretty much decided that I could forego any other part of my house as long as I could have a magnificent kitchen.

I watch HGTV quite a bit which only makes matters worse because I see so many different styles and colors that I pin point every little detail that I dream of having.

This album above is something I am in love with at the moment and that is the kitchen sink…not just any sink, but a FARM sink. (I know, I go to the University of Alabama and I dream of having a farm sink, go ahead, crack the jokes) But I just love them. The pictures are various styles of the traditional farm sink and it is easy to see how they can fit in a variety of kitchen styles.

Let me know what you think…are they too big or too much? Or maybe just perfect..I tend to think so.

Thirteen Days

So I have said before that I am a history major…I Love history. I love learning about military history, cultures, decisions…and I guess people in general. It intrigues me to imagine why people do the things they do, why do country’s react the way they react. And this list could go on…

I will be the first to say that often historical movies are inaccurate but there is one movie that I love and that would be 13 days. thirteen_days

This movie chronicles the 13 days where the United States and the USSR were quite possibly at the brink of a nuclear war. The USSR was sending missiles to be stored in Cuba (which is very close to the U.S.) and we setup a blockade to prevent the ships from entering Cuba. The ships of the two countries were literally nose to nose in the open sea.  With much deliberation and thought President Kennedy was able to fend off war and settle the dispute peacefully. There was a lot more into it than this simplicity.

I think what I like so much about the movie is well the intensity and the inside look at what this process looked like but also the workings of the Kennedy brothers…we didn’t have much time to see them and their work but this is something that really was a remarkable event and time period. 13days1

Kevin Costner is the big name actor we see here but all of the acting is really great. I am not a movie critic in any sort but if you enjoy suspense and/or history then you would love this movie. I truly recommend watching it to see what it might “possibly” be like for a president and his cabinet during such times. Of course Hollywood is Hollywood and they will doctor things up for their liking but I do think this is a great movie and have watched it maybe 10 times. (It is always on TV)
